Kurinji Gifts are handcrafted by girls and women, from *Calcutta India, who have escaped sex trafficking and been given a fresh start, a renewed sense of dignity & worth, and a freedom that otherwise could not have been imagined. Together we can work to help one more girl off the streets where there is a future and a hope waiting for her.
*We partner with Priya at “Love Calcutta Arts” to provide you with beautiful gifts that carry a meaningful message of hope.
Gorgeous, generously sized, with a bold, wide cuff at the top! Sure to make anyone in your life smile! Even though each one is different, they all coordinate and compliment each other. Your fireplace mantle could have a fun, boutique look with these stockings hanging for your loved ones!
These journals are one-of-a-kind and carefully crafted using recycled materials. Their hand-bound pages are made with reclaimed cotton fabrics and woolen blankets. They are covered with three layers of vintage sari material, the traditional garment of Indian women. The cotton journals are embellished using a running kantha stitch.
The blankets are hand-stitched with two layers of vintage sari material, using a running kantha stitch. They are reversible, each side unique and beautiful. You may feel nostalgic as you wrap up in your soft, cozy blanket and remember a life half-way around the world who made it for you!
Keeping It Personal
A daughter of Calcutta made each journal by hand. Every one she makes helps her rewrite her life story. We hope you sense a connection with her as you hold her creation in your hands and see her *personal hand-written notes* to you! We invite you to look up their meanings. Hint: they are written in her native language of Bengali. With each purchase, you are enriching a life and truly making a difference. Thank you so much! Your involvement is an encouragement and blessing!
*exclusively done for Kurinji Gifts customers
Pocket Journals are carefully handcrafted in a petite size for tossing in your purse, car, school backpack, or anywhere you need a place to write down something you don't want to forget! The hand-bound pages are made with reclaimed cotton fabrics and woolen blankets. The covers are wrapped with three layers of vintage saris. (no handwritten notes inside these small ones)
Memo Box lids are wrapped in vintage sari fabric. You'll find the boxes filled with the same uniquely textured, handmade, paper. After you use up the paper, you can refill with your own paper or sticky notes, or use as a sweet little keepsake box, prayer box, etc.
The Story Behind Our Name
Kurinji is a small flower, native only to India, that blooms en masse once every 12 years! A reminder that God truly makes everything beautiful in its time. How often do we fail to take time to see the beauty or worth in another person? A single kurinji flower is small and may seem insignificant, but because it blooms alongside so many others, together they transform the mountain landscape into magical shades of blue and purple. What a beautiful picture that when we pull together we can make a difference. One alone may feel powerless, but together we can “color” a mountain!
